The crash took place in Stamford around 8:55 p.m., Monday, Jan. 29 on Jefferson Street at Magee Avenue.

According to Sgt. Jeffrey Booth of the Stamford Police, a 2004 Porsche Cayenne was traveling eastbound on Jefferson Street approaching the junction with Magee Avenue when the driver failed to negotiate the left curve in the roadway and struck a City of Stamford traffic light pole.

The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 45-year-old Stamford resident, suffered critical injuries during the collision, Booth said.

He was transported to Stamford Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Identification of the operator is being withheld until family members can be notified.

Booth said several factors are being investigated, including whether or not the operator may have suffered a medical episode before the crash.

This investigation remains open, anyone who may have any further information is being asked to contact the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad at 203-977-4712.
